We encounter many distractions and duties that waste our time. It is advisable to create boundaries around less important tasks and create time to work on the highly important tasks. We need to get brutal with our time. When we get interrupted it will take up between 25 - 30 minutes to refocus. It is also most likely you might not get back to task because one interruption leads to another. How to Safe Guard Your Time: 3 Ways to Set Solid Boundaries Identify people who drain you and reduce the frequency of the time you spend with them. Intentionally set boundaries to safeguard your time and energy. Be responsible for enforcing healthy boundaries and diligently guard them from violators. You must protect your time and energy. Learn to say no. When presented with a request that you don’t have time for do not be tempted to say yes instead of no. It will lead to resentment which is not good for your mental health. Comprehension of the value of what you can achieve with your time within your day permits you to assess whether an additional new workload on your plate is worthwhile. Effective time management enables us to achieve more in less time, and also reduce stress, improve the balance between work, and life balance, and enable overall wellbeing. I did not know how to handle my new role, “empty nester.” I once heard somebody say that change is beautiful; some people embrace it while others resist it. I had a choice, to embrace it or resist it. Failure to embrace it has consequences such as stagnation, depression, and lack of purpose. It is essential to know how to embrace change since it can come in many forms, such as a significant force like an earthquake or creep along incrementally like a cold. It can also come devastatingly, like loss, a failed relationship, or new opportunities. Though embracing change is difficult, it is for our benefit. Succeeding in life requires significant change that will push us out of our comfort zone. Improving our lives requires forcing ourselves to embrace difficult change with a positive attitude. For example, taking appropriate steps to break unhealthy friendships, get out of an abusive relationship, and challenge a mediocre life. Change is in God's control. “For I know the plans I have for you,”declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV Life without change can be flat with sameness, lacking adventure; it becomes boring practicing the same routine over and over. The adventure begins with embracing failure as a friend; by learning from it and denying fear an opportunity to hold you back. The adventure eliminates stagnation, renews our strength, and builds resilience. The story of an eagle illustrates this very well. I heard that an eagle can live up to seventy years, depending on its willingness to take an adventurous journey of change. The eagle reaches a point where the beak becomes old, weak, and cannot attack its prey effectively. The feathers also become old, and flight becomes difficult. The eagle, therefore, hits on a rock with its beak until it falls out, and it waits for it to grow back. Then it uses the new beak to remove the aging feathers, an adventure that takes courage and determination. We need to emulate the eagle.
